THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF SERVERS: The one’s who care and the ones who don’t.
I used to work in restaurants serving customers for years. Been there done that. From the moment you walk into a restaurant you can tell if the person serving you gives a damn or if they’re just there for the paycheck.
The servers who typically don’t give a damn are the people writing butthurt articles about the 10 types of “tippers”. There are no “tippers” in the service industry. This is the first problem with the author’s outlook. There are only “customers”. How you treat those customers will determine how they treat you, and especially how they end up tipping you for your service.
The servers who do give a damn, who do care, make buckets of money in tips. I know: been there done that; and I’ve been on both sides of the care/don’t care equation.
I’ve been known to tip more than the price of the bill. I’ve tipped $100 on an $80 bill and I’ve left literally $0.10 for a tip because the service was not just bad, but ugly. It was my way of saying, the service was terrible! I’ve even gotten people fired on the spot for service that was so bad the manager sent the “server” home.
The bottom line is, if you’re wasting your time writing articles about the 10 types of “tippers” — get out of the industry. We don’t want you waiting on our tables. You’re probably the wrong type of personality to be a serviceperson.
